Ray suspended pending hearing
Mon. Nov. 30, 1998.

The NHL has suspended Rob Ray pending a hearing this week after the Buffalo winger was assessed a match injury in Saturday night's 6-2 loss to Florida.

Ray was given a match penalty (deliberate injury) for ``slew-footing'' Panthers left-winger Alex Hicks, kicking out his feet from under him.

The incident resulted in a brawl with 11:48 left that resulted in 60 minutes of penalties and took several minutes to break up.

Buffalo's Michal Grosek, who was also ejected, and Curtis Brown were given misconduct penalties, as were Florida's Peter Worrell and Paul Laus. Sabres goalie Dominik Hasek was given a bench minor for throwing his gloves on the ice in protest.

Ray was to sit out Sunday's game at Tampa as part of the suspension.
