Morissette wins Habs' battle of battlers
Tuesday, 6 October, 1998
MONTREAL (CP) -- Dave Morissette appears to have won the enforcer's job at the Montreal Canadiens training camp.
The 26-year-old Morissette took a big step toward replacing the departed Mick Vukota as the Canadiens tough guy on Tuesday when his main rival, Sylvain Blouin, was included among three cuts made by coach Alain Vigneault.
"We felt Dave brings a little more energy to the job than Sylvain," said Vigneault.
The six-foot-one, 210-pound Morissette, a career minor-leaguer, was a free agent picked up from Houston of the International Hockey League. The six-foot-two, 216-pound Blouin was acquired from the New York Rangers for defenceman Peter Popovic.
