Montreal's Blouin Suspended
NEW YORK (October 1, 1998) - Montreal Canadiens defenseman Sylvain Blouin has been suspended two pre-season games and fined $1,000 for an incident during a pre-season game against the Chicago Blackhawks, the National Hockey League announced today.
Blouin was assessed a major penalty for checking from behind and a game misconduct penalty at 18:17 of the third period of the pre-season game at Chicago Sept. 27.
Pursuant to League rules regarding supplementary discipline, whenever possible, the suspension assessed is to take effect the game immediately following the relevant incident. Accordingly, Blouin served one game of the suspension (Sept. 30 at Toronto) while awaiting a hearing, which Colin Campbell, Senior Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations, conducted by telephone today. Blouin also will miss Montreal's pre-season game tonight against the New York Rangers.
