Flames re-sign captain Simpson
CALGARY - The Calgary Flames signed rugged defenseman Todd Simpson to a three-year contract, the team announced Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. The deal will give the 25-year-old team captain $1 million in 1998-99 and $1.066 million in both the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons. Simpson, who had one goal, seven points and 109 penalty minutes in 53 games with the Flames last season, received $675,000. In 141 career NHL games with Calgary, Simpson has two goals and 20 points and 349 penalty minutes, including 208 PIM in 1996-97.
